Amirabdollahian made the remarks in a meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus on Saturday.
During the meeting, while conveying best wishes of Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and President Ebrahim Raisi, Amirabdollahian called the recent visit of the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to Tehran a turning point in the relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Syria and considered it effective and fruitful in bolstering relations between the two states.
Appreciating the efforts of the Syrian government and president in strengthening national unity, territorial integrity, and sovereignty, he said that those particular opposing sides to Syria's territorial integrity and sovereignty are trying to disrupt the situation.
While condemning the Zionist regime's attacks on Syria, the top Iranian diplomat termed the silence of the Western sides as double-standards of these countries’ reactions.
Failing a serious confrontation against the Zionist regime's destructive attempts shows that western countries' claims of trying to stabilize security in Syria are not real, Amirabdollahian said, adding that the Western side's position increases the audacity of the racist Zionist regime to try to disrupt the situation in Syria.
He emphasized that Iran understands the existing concerns, but "we oppose" military operations to resolve the problems, adding that the problems should be resolved by direct talks and through working together and addressing concerns.
The Syrian President, for his part, called the visit of Amirabdollahian to Damascus important in light of regional and global developments, adding that a situation is taking place that would change the balance in the region in Syria's favor.
He accused Western countries of provoking the situation in Syria through political reciprocity, competition, and asking for concessions from the other sides.
Referring to the concerns and dangers in the region, Bashar al-Assad noted that some of these issues are shared by the states in the region and must be resolved through a political solution and joint dialogue.
Syria is glad that under such circumstances, the Islamic Republic of Iran is part of a political solution in the region, he said, stressing that "we welcome a solution that would keep Syria out of the war".
The Syrian President called the relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and his country a strategic alliance and added that over the past 40 years they have witnessed enhancing ties between the two states.
He called Palestine a matter of mutual interest to the Islamic Republic of Iran and Syria, noting that due to the pressures on the resistance-oriented countries, an ally has been formed that is allied with the determination to confront the system of domination, noting that there are few countries in the world that have such desire.
